Program Note:
Hear That Train a-Comin' (the stand-alone version of the eighth movement of Sun Rises on the Yucca Motel for string quartet), explores the soundscapes of the railyard in the small town of Vaughn, New Mexico; the pieces juxtaposes contrasting harsh textures and rhythms inspired by the railyard's machinery with the constant stream of ephemeral gestures emerging from the nearby interstate, all the while grappling with a troubled bluegrass tune as it attempts to emerge from the junction of industry and the desert landscape.
